Learn to mplay drums4/3/2023 ![]() ![]() Speaking of freaking awesome bass lines, Hella Good by No Doubt is another one that rides the awesome groove and has a super simple drum beat to go along with it. It’s just a super basic song that works extremely well and it goes without saying that more intricate drumming probably would have tarnished the song. In addition to it’s bass line, the verses uses a simple kick drum beat that anybody should be able to do while the chorus amps up with a heavy groove on the crash and snare.Īnd honestly there’s not much else to say about it. Never before has a bass line been so iconic that it also works as a stadium chant (seriously how does that happen?!?). Seven Nation Army is just a fantastic song, full stop. It’s not much of an endurance song though, as the song chugs along at a mere seventy eight BPM. It’s a perfect musical phrase to help any beginner drummer get the hang of pretty basic drum fills.Īlso different about this one is that it’s a lot longer than some other songs you’ll play, clocking in at nine minutes and sixteen seconds. “November Rain” By Guns ‘N RosesĪ bit of a deviation on this list, I included this song on here for one reason and one reason only: The song uses the exact same drum fill every four bars, twenty three times throughout the song. Also the beat with the floor tom during the intro and the spoken word part in the middle is a great chance to practice on the tom drums. This song really is a good opportunity to play along with a heavy, simple groove and have fun with it. Much like the last entry, the main heavy guitar riff is what drives the song with the drums bringing it to the forefront. ![]() For now, let stick with Enter Sandman which actually reached the top twenty on Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of 1991 (this surprised the hell out of me). “Enter Sandman” By MetallicaĪnother great drummer for this list when it comes to thoroughly driving home simple beats with purpose, Lars Ulrich also has other tracks which could qualify for list. The only thing that makes this song in any way difficult is the bass drum stroke which comes in on the “e” on counts of “1e&a”, which might take some practice if you’re a super newbie but shouldn’t be too difficult to get the hang of otherwise. The song is driven by those classic power chords like a lot of ACDC’s catalogue, but Phil Rudd’s simple, straight forward drumming really drives the song forward. I could probably put fifty other ACDC songs on this list and it would be justified, but for now lets stick to this Classic rock anthem off of 1980’s Back in Black. Since these ones are obviously meant for beginners, I tried to find a fine line between songs that were simple enough to play along to, but also had enough of a pulse to them that playing along would be fun as hell and get the endorphins running in your brain. With that being said, here are my choices for the top twenty songs that any beginner drummer would be good to learn. Not only is it fun and rewarding, but you can pick up different techniques practiced by the drummer on the song which can motivate you even more to keep learning. When it comes to learning to play drums, playing along to songs you know can be one of the best things you can do.
